On June 3, a four-day visit titled "Revisiting the Greater Bay Area to Embrace New Opportunities" commenced, led by Commissioner Cui Jianchun of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong. The delegation, comprising over 100 participants including consuls general or their representatives from various countries stationed in Hong Kong, heads of foreign chambers of commerce in Hong Kong, senior executives of multinational corporations and financial institutions, as well as officials from the SAR government, embarked on an intensive itinerary from June 3 to 6, visiting Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai to conduct a series of activities and inspect achievements in high-tech sectors.
The first stop was Qianhai, where the delegation engaged in interactions with young entrepreneurs at an outdoor exhibition platform. While experiencing "young minds," they took a group photo using a "360-degree camera" designed by a Qianhai startup. Later, at XPeng in Guangzhou, consuls and business leaders not only test-rode new energy vehicles but also encountered the renowned flying car. Faced with an array of innovative products and what seemed like "surreal" aerial vehicles, the President of the Philippines Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macau (PHCHAM) frankly stated his intention to "inspect and learn more" during this opportunity.
At Kingsoft Software Park in Zhuhai, delegation members unexpectedly got a taste of being "professional esports players." Seated in gaming chairs, they tried out a self-developed action game still in beta under staff guidance. Amazed by the immersive gaming experience, Maurits ter Kuile, Consul General of the Netherlands to Hong Kong and Macau, joked to the camera, "I feel OLD!" He added that the Netherlands also has game studios and expressed hope for future collaboration opportunities.
"Greater Bay Area (GBA) integration" remains a developmental goal for both the SAR government and the broader region. The innovation ecosystem and cluster of high-tech enterprises in GBA have attracted numerous investors and professionals, significantly accelerating integration while creating more employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. A representative from the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong remarked that the visit offered an exceptionally rich experience, with members expressing a desire to stay longer in GBA cities, including Hong Kong.
