Los Angeles (LA), US, has been engulfed in violent protests since June 6 (local time) following the federal government's mass crackdown on so-called "illegal immigrants," with demonstrations escalating into clashes. On June 10 (local time), LA declared a state of emergency, imposing a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day in parts of downtown.
A journalist on the ground in Los Angeles observed ongoing protest marches that have brought the city's road traffic to a near standstill. Demonstrators waved flags from Mexico and other Latin American countries while brandishing signs reading "Stop ICE" (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
Following the curfew order, streets were flooded with police officers, with helicopters even deployed overhead. US media reported that the Trump administration has dispatched 700 Marines and 4,000 National Guard troops to contain unrest in several downtown Los Angeles neighborhoods, while extending curfew measures.
