On June 2, Harvard University filed a motion in federal court requesting a summary judgment to unfreeze US$2.5 billion in federal funding that was blocked by the Trump administration.
According to court documents, the frozen funds include US$88 million for pediatric HIV research, US$12 million for improving the Department of Defense's understanding of emerging biological threats, and US$8 million allocated to studying dark energy.
Harvard disclosed that it has faced 957 orders to freeze funds related to research on national security threats, cancer, and infectious diseases since April 14. The university claims these actions are a result of its refusal to comply with a series of demands made by the White House.
