As the Dragon Boat Festival arrives, the highly anticipated 2025 Aberdeen Dragon Boat Races officially kicked off today (May 31). This year's event drew 46 teams and more than 1,600 athletes, creating a lively and competitive atmosphere. Spectators flocked to the waterfront early to secure the best viewing spots, with photography enthusiasts setting up professional gear to capture the thrilling moments.

In the heat of the competition, four dragon boats raced fiercely across the water, cheered on by an energetic crowd along the shoreline. The early stages of the race saw three boats neck and neck, making it difficult to determine the lead. Midway through, the third dragon boat surged ahead with a sudden burst of speed, establishing a clear advantage and taking the lead. The scene was electrifying, with spectators eagerly watching and cheering for their favorite teams.
The dragon boat races are not only a celebration of traditional culture but also a vivid display of the unity and determination that defines Hong Kong's spirit. This year's event featured several race categories, including the "Fishermen's Large Dragon Division," "Men's Open Standard Dragon Division," "Corporate Group," "Mixed Division," and the "Southern District Schools Invitational Division." Among these, the Mixed Division stood out with 16 teams competing, showcasing impeccable teamwork and collaboration between male and female paddlers. The morning races were particularly intense, with the final 50-meter sprint often drawing waves of applause and cheers from the crowd.

Mr. Ng, a spectator at the event, shared his excitement: "I love standing at the turning point of the race because you can see the teams battling it out—it's so intense that it makes your palms sweat!" However, not everyone felt the same energy as previous years. Ms. Chan commented, "Last year was packed with people, but this year the atmosphere feels slightly less festive. Still, the races are absolutely thrilling!"
