The 3rd Hometown Market Carnival will take place this Sunday (June 1) at Victoria Park, featuring an expanded lineup and diverse offerings. The Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organisations, one of the main organizers, will host 30 booths showcasing a variety of Guangdong specialties, including prepared foods and drinks, as well as rich local products like dried lychee from Dongguan, traditional tea gifts from Shanwei, and Hakka meatballs. The Association looks forward to sharing the unique charm of hometown culture with the public during this vibrant cultural feast.
Savor Sea Urchin Rice Dumplings and Pineapple Cakes in the Tech Experience Zone
The Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organisations announced several specialty food booths on social media, including traditional sea urchin rice dumplings, sea urchin molten custard mooncakes, and pineapple cakes from the Federation of Hong Kong Shenzhen Associations. The Nan Ao pineapple cake is especially renowned for its crispy crust and sweet pineapple filling, offering an exceptional taste.
The Dongguan Community Federation will present dried lychee from Dongguan, one of Lingnan's four famous fruits. Naturally sun-dried, these lychees preserve their sweet aroma and summer flavors in Lingnan. Dried lychee is also beneficial for nourishing the heart and kidneys and improving conditions like qi deficiency and weakness.
To promote Shanwei's unique culture, the Shanwei Community Association has prepared the first cultural tea gift combining nine national intangible cultural heritage elements. The packaging design reflects Shanwei's cultural heritage, including Lu Feng shadow puppetry, Hai Feng lion dance, Shanwei Xiqin opera, and fishing songs.
"Shared roots and flavors of Guangdong, the Hometown Market in Hong Kong," said Kung Chun-lung, Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organisations, in a video on social media. He expressed excitement about the vibrant atmosphere of this year's fair and the opportunity to enjoy the unique charm of hometown culture together.
He highlighted the fair's special feature: a new tech experience zone showcasing innovative technology products, including digital humans and AI-generated poetry, allowing Hong Kong residents to experience the pace of the new technological era.
Tang Ching-ho, the First Executive Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organisations, recommended Zhaoqing's wrapped steamed dumplings and Zhongshan's lotus seed dumplings, as well as the must-have summer treat—juicy lychees. Various booths will also sell traditional Guangdong herbs like five-finger peach, cowhorn, and earth poria, all popular choices for soup.
In terms of tea, the Guangdong booths will offer Yingde black tea from Qingyuan, Phoenix single-bud tea from Chaozhou, and Kung Fu tea, providing a taste of the region's rich tea culture.
