According to a report by China News Service on May 27, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) announced on its official website that Swedish candidate Petra Sorling was re-elected as ITTF president. The election for the ITTF Executive Committee, however, has been postponed due to unspecified reasons.
The official announcement confirmed that Sorling secured 104 votes, narrowly defeating Qatari candidate Khalil Al-Mohannadi, who received 102 votes. Several individuals expressed dissatisfaction with the election process and protested on-site, leading to the interruption of the live broadcast.
As per the ITTF Constitution, the continuation of the election must take place no later than November 2025. In addition to the presidential election, the meeting included voting on the host cities for the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships from 2027 to 2029.
- 2027: Astana, Kazakhstan, will host the World Table Tennis Championships.
- 2028: Fukuoka, Japan, will host the team championships.
- 2029: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will host the 2029 edition of the sport's most prestigious event.
