A massive fire broke out at a warehouse in Ha Tsuen, Tin Shui Wai, at 12:40 pm today (May 27), escalating to a three-alarm fire by 1:33 pm. A 53-year-old man suffered burns to his back and was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in stable condition. The inferno raged for over five hours, with thick black smoke visible across the skyline by late afternoon as firefighters continued battling the flames.
The Fire Services Department (FSD) reported the fire engulfed an area measuring 200 meters by 200 meters, with temperatures near the core reaching 550°C. Drones were deployed to survey the scene from above, while firefighting robots assisted ground crews in high-risk zones. Authorities warned nearby residents to close windows and stay calm due to heavy smoke and hazardous fumes carried by wind.
Videos shared on social media by users in Shenzhen showed smoke from the fire drifting across the border, with some near Shenzhen Bay reporting unusual odors. "The smoke plume is massive—visible even from parts of Shenzhen," one user wrote.
As of 5 pm, the FSD stated extinguishing efforts would "continue for some time," urging the public to avoid the area. Investigations into the cause of the blaze are ongoing.
