MTR's Tseung Kwan O Line was completely suspended during the evening rush hour on Wednesday after a train near Quarry Bay Station reportedly experienced a power outage and suspected fire inside a tunnel.

At approximately 5:00 PM, a train traveling from North Point toward Yau Tong came to a sudden halt between stations due to what passengers described as a loud bang followed by a power failure. Emergency services, including fire trucks and ambulances, were dispatched to the scene. The train eventually returned to the platform and passengers were safely evacuated. No injuries have been reported.

Meanwhile, reports from Yau Tong Station indicated that some passengers were unable to exit through fare gates, adding to the commuter chaos.
By 5:22 PM, MTR confirmed service disruption between North Point and Tiu Keng Leng due to a power supply issue. The situation escalated, and by 5:51 PM, the entire Tseung Kwan O Line was shut down.
In response, MTR arranged free shuttle buses between Tseung Kwan O and LOHAS Park, and between Tiu Keng Leng and Po Lam, while advising passengers to seek alternative transport.
Large crowds were seen stranded at multiple stations, including Tseung Kwan O, as passengers queued for refunds or rerouted their journeys. MTR engineers and emergency crews are currently investigating the cause of the incident and working to restore services.
