
Piano virtuoso Mikhail Pletnev is set to return to Hong Kong for a special recital at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on June 17, marking his first performance in the city in ten years. This event will kick off the annual Great Music series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), making it a must-see for music enthusiasts.
The recital program features a selection of classical masterpieces, including Beethoven's "Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, 'Pathétique'" and "Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, 'Moonlight'." Additionally, Pletnev will perform several pieces from Grieg's "Lyric Pieces Book," such as "Fedrelandssang (National Song)" and "Berceuse (Cradle-Song)."
Pletnev is celebrated as one of today's most esteemed artists, renowned for his skills as a pianist, conductor, and composer. He gained international recognition after winning First Prize at the 1978 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition at just 21 years old. His accolades include numerous awards, such as a Grammy and a Diapason d'Or. In 1990, he established the Russian National Orchestra, the first independent orchestra in Russia, and later founded the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra.
The "Piano Recital by Mikhail Pletnev" will take place at 8 pm on June 17 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
