According to the latest figures of the Housing Department (HD), as at the end of March this year, the average waiting time for general applicants who were allocated public rental housing (PRH) units in the past 12 months remained at 5.3 years. Among them, the average waiting time for elderly one-person applicants has been shortened by 0.1 year to 3.3 years as compared with the previous quarter.
According to the HD, the average waiting time for PRH was maintained at 5.3 years in the first quarter of this year. This was mainly due to the fact that nearly 60% of the applicants were allocated refurbished flats in the past year, and among them, 80% were located in the urban or extended urban areas.
The department noted that the average waiting time for general applicants who were allocated PRH flats in the urban or extended urban areas was about two years longer than that for those who were allocated PRH flats in the New Territories. As for elderly one-person applicants, over 40% of the elderly one-person applicants who were allocated PRH in the past 12 months were New Territories applicants with relatively shorter waiting times.
