The MTR said that the installation of platform gates at the East Rail Line's University Station has been completed, while the installation works at the remaining Mong Kok East and Lo Wu Stations are also in progress. At present, the installation of platform gates at 11 stations on the East Rail Line has been completed. The MTR expects that, according to the current progress, the whole project will be completed between this month and next month, which is about half a year earlier than the original schedule.
According to the MTR, the University, Lo Wu and Mong Kok East stations are the last stations to install platform gates, and the works commenced in the fourth quarter of last year. The curvature of the station platforms is relatively large, making the project complex and difficult. The engineering team overcame a number of challenges, including the use of glass doors of different widths to match the curvature of the platforms, as well as the precise adjustment of the installation angle and the distance between the platform edges, so that the gates can be installed on curved platforms.
