Alliance Medical Group, a provider of vaccination services and health checks, is rumored to have closed down. The company's official social media accounts have been canceled, and no one is answering their phones. The company's centers in Tsim Sha Tsui and Sha Tin are not open for business, and some customers who had originally made appointments to receive vaccinations at the centers today (May 2) were not answered.
Sources said the police have so far received a total of seven reports of such cases, involving about HK$60,000 in money. Most of the people who reported the cases bought vaccination packages at an exhibition at the Wan Chai Convention and Exhibition Centre in August last year, and the cases are temporarily classified as consumer disputes.
Consumer Council said it was deeply concerned about the incident and was closely monitoring its development, and urged the traders to give an account of their business and follow-up arrangements as soon as possible so as to allay consumers' concerns.
Over the years, the Alliance Medical Group, which mainly provides vaccination services for infants and young children, has been touting its services by advertising that the vaccines it offers have "fewer adverse reactions", fewer injections, and discounts of up to 60% to 70%, attracting a large number of parents to purchase vaccine packages ranging from over HK$3,000 to over HK$10,000 on a pre-payment basis. However, the group's official Facebook and Instagram accounts were deleted the night before, and a large number of parents' calls were not answered, which immediately led to rumors of the closure of the entire line, and a number of affected parents reported to the police for help. The legal profession pointed out that healthcare professionals are "exempt" professionals under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, which may not be applicable, and urged the government to strengthen the regulation of the private healthcare industry in Hong Kong.
