The Labor Day "Golden Week" holiday in mainland China began yesterday (May 1). According to statistics from the Immigration Department, over 1.02 million people crossed the boundary between Hong Kong and Shenzhen throughout the day, with more than 540,000 entering and over 480,000 exiting.

In terms of arrivals, there were over 220,000 visitors from the mainland, while the number of Hong Kong residents departing exceeded 290,000.

It is reported that last year's "Golden Week," which also had a five-day holiday, saw 181,000 visitors on the first day. By 9 PM yesterday, the number of visitors during the first day had increased by nearly 18% compared to the total for the same day last year.

Additionally, compared to the first day of the three-day Qingming Festival holiday last month, the number of mainland visitors to Hong Kong increased by over 19%.
