According to USA Today, an armored truck in Illinois accidentally dropped three bags of cash on the afternoon of April 22, resulting in approximately US$300,000 (around HK$2.326 million) being taken by passersby. The incident unfolded after the truck's rear door mysteriously opened, spilling the money onto the road.
Local authorities reported that when the truck driver realized what had happened and returned to the scene, he found 50 to 100 people collecting bills from the ground. Many individuals walked or drove away from the area with the cash. Law enforcement is currently investigating the matter but has not disclosed whether any arrests have been made.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the US. In 2018, a similar event took place in Indiana, and another occurred in California in 2021, where armored trucks also lost large sums of cash due to accidental spills.
