On April 28, the Shine Tak Foundation held a grand inauguration ceremony for its sixth Board of Directors at the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong in Wan Chai.
The event was graced by distinguished guests including Dr. Cheung Kwok-kwan, Deputy Secretary for Justice; Ms. Alice Mak Mei-kuen, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs; Mr. Luo Jianjun, Director of the New Territories Department of the Central People's Government Liaison Office; Mr. Sun Qingye, Deputy director of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the CPG; Mr. Li Yongsheng, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Mr. Lee Pak-chuen, Permanent Secretary for Security.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu expressed his support and encouragement via a pre-recorded video. The ceremony was attended by representatives from over a dozen foreign embassies and consulates in China, Hong Kong, and Macao, marking an unprecedented gathering.
In his video address, Chief Executive John Lee praised the foundation's longstanding commitment to youth development, emphasizing its role in promoting Chinese culture, fostering national identity, and enhancing young people's understanding of the nation's history and the "One Country, Two Systems" principle. He highlighted the government's focus on nurturing a new generation with global perspectives and positive values through exchange programs and initiatives to strengthen patriotism and legal awareness. Lee expressed confidence that the foundation, under its new leadership, would continue innovating to empower youth and contribute to society.
New Leadership and Vision
The newly elected Chairman, Dr. Lam Kwok-hing, led the sixth Board of Directors in a solemn oath-taking ceremony under the supervision of Dr. Cheung Kwok-kwan. Pledging to uphold the foundation's motto, "Boundless Compassion, Virtue for the World," Lam vowed to advance its mission as a "unique charitable organization" by collaborating across sectors to nurture youth and build a hopeful, progressive society.
Expanding Youth Initiatives
In his inaugural speech, Chairman Lam outlined plans to enhance flagship programs such as the Shine Tak Foundation Caring for Scientific Research Youth Development Program, the Shine Tak Foundation One Country, Two Systems Education Program, and the Shine Tak Foundation Academy – Chinese Cultural Heritage in Schools Program. The foundation will continue sponsoring the Hong Kong Sports Institute's "Shine Tak Foundation Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards" and, for the first time, title-sponsor the 16th ISSP World Congress of Sport Psychology.
New initiatives include supporting the Hong Kong Scout Association in establishing a "Scout Special Incident Response Team" to train youth in disaster management and community service. Lam also announced groundbreaking international programs:
- National Treasures International Drawing Competition: International Painting Competition: Encouraging cross-cultural exchange by having students depict their nation's iconic treasures (e.g., giant pandas for China). Winners will participate in overseas exchanges or visit Hong Kong.
- Diplomatic Knowledge Training and Model United Nations: Partnering with institutions to equip youth with global perspectives and storytelling skills to share China's and Hong Kong's narratives internationally.
Cultural Ambition and Global Impact
Lam emphasized Hong Kong's unique role as a bridge between Chinese and global cultures, aligning with the government's vision to establish the city as an international arts and cultural hub. The foundation will host a "National Treasures International Drawing Competition" in 2025, inviting international winners to celebrate in Hong Kong, showcasing the city's multicultural vibrancy. Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group is the organizer of the "National Treasures International Drawing Competition" media support organization. Together with the national treasure, all organizers join in the fun.
Since its establishment over a decade ago, the Shine Tak Foundation has impacted over one million students through cultural, technological, sports, and patriotic education programs. By integrating traditional values with global outlooks, the foundation aims to cultivate future leaders with both "Chinese roots and a world vision," contributing to the nation's cultural strength and promoting harmony worldwide.
