As US President Donald Trump approaches his 100th day in office, a new poll by CNN reveals that his approval rating has dropped to 41%, marking the lowest 100-day support level for a US president in the past 70 years.
The poll, conducted by SSRS on behalf of CNN, shows that Trump's approval rating has fallen by 4 percentage points since March. This makes his first 100 days in office the least popular among US presidents since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1951. The rating is also significantly lower than the approval Trump held during the same period of his first term.
The survey also indicates a consistent decline in Trump's approval ratings. Compared to March, support has dropped by 3 percentage points, and it has fallen by 7 points since late February. Only 22% of respondents expressed strong approval of Trump's policies, a record low, while 45% strongly disapproved—an increase from previous months.
On economic issues, Trump's approval rating has fallen by 5 percentage points to 39%, the lowest of his presidency. Confidence in his ability to handle economic matters has dropped sharply, with just 52% of respondents expressing confidence, a significant decline of 13 percentage points compared to CNN's poll in December of last year.
The poll further reveals that 43% of respondents support Trump's significant restructuring of the federal government, while 57% believe he has unnecessarily put the country at risk. In terms of foreign affairs, only 39% approve of Trump's performance, while 60% disapprove.
The survey was conducted from April 17 to April 24 using both online and telephone interviews, with a total of 1,678 adults across the US participating. The margin of error for the poll is ±2.9 percentage points.
