Recently, the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations held an informal Security Council meeting in New York themed "The Impact of Unilateralism and Bullying Practices on International Relations." Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun introduced the situation at a regular press conference today (April 25), stating that most participating countries called for upholding multilateralism and urged the United States to recognize the universal concerns and strong voices conveyed by the meeting.

Guo explained that on April 23, Ambassador Fu Cong, the Chinese Permanent Representative to the UN, presided over the Security Council Arria-formula meeting on "The Impact of Unilateralism and Bullying Practices on International Relations," which was attended by representatives from over 80 countries, including Security Council members.

According to Guo, the Chinese side emphasized that the U.S. abuse of tariffs severely infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of various countries, seriously violates World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, and disrupts the stability of the global economic order. It essentially uses tariffs to subvert the international economic and trade order, prioritizing U.S. interests over the common good of the international community and sacrificing the legitimate interests of countries worldwide to serve U.S. hegemonic interests.

Guo stated that most participating countries called for upholding multilateralism, enhancing dialogue and cooperation, maintaining a multilateral trading system centered on the WTO, adhering to the UN Charter and the basic principles of international relations, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and promoting stability and development among nations.

"The world cannot return to the jungle law of the survival of the fittest, and the U.S. should not continue down the wrong path."
