US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday (April 22) that if China does not agree to a trade deal, the US will set the terms.
Speaking to reporters, Trump emphasized that Washington would approach trade negotiations with Beijing in a friendly manner and would not adopt a tough stance toward Chinese President Xi Jinping. He assured that once a deal is reached, US tariffs on Chinese imports would be significantly reduced. However, he clarified that tariffs would not drop to zero but would also not reach or approach 145%.
Trump also dismissed speculation about firing Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell but expressed his desire for Powell to lower interest rates.
