On April 15, the White House threatened to impose tariffs of up to 245% on Chinese goods entering the US.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that China has repeatedly clarified its firm position on tariffs. Lin stated that this tariff war was started by the US. China has taken necessary countermeasures in order to defend its legitimate rights and interests and international fairness and justice. This is fully justified and lawful.
"Tariff and trade wars have no winners. China does not want to fight these wars but is not scared of them," Lin said.
