The White House confirmed plans to impose a staggering 104% tariff on certain Chinese imports starting at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday (April 9). According to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, the decision comes in response to China's refusal to withdraw retaliatory tariffs against the US.
Leavitt emphasized that the tariff hike will take effect as scheduled. Donald Trump remains resolute in enforcing the measure.
Leavitt also revealed that nearly 70 countries have approached the US to negotiate the tariff issues. The White House will adopt a "customized" approach to these discussions, leaving all options open at the negotiation table.
