A 41-year-old male tourist from the mainland was arrested in Macao after losing over HK$60,000 in a casino and attempting to falsely accuse a hotel cleaner of theft. Macao police detained the man on suspicion of filing a false report after conducting an investigation.

According to the Macao Daily News, the suspect, identified as Mr. Sun, sought assistance from the security department of a Macao hotel late at night on March 29. He claimed that a hotel cleaner had stolen valuables from his room.

After receiving the report, Macao police launched an investigation and discovered that Sun had checked into the hotel earlier that evening before heading directly to the casino to gamble. No one else had entered his room after his departure.

Police found inconsistencies in his story, leading them to suspect foul play. Following further inquiries, Sun was arrested for allegedly filing a false report.
