According to the official account of the cybersecurity bureau of China's Public Security Ministry, a rumor claiming that a "top-tier celebrity lost RMB 1 billion gambling in Macao" has been circulating on online platforms since March 10, 2025.

The claim sparked heated discussions and rampant speculation among netizens, with related topics frequently trending on social media platforms.

Cybersecurity authorities identified Xu (male, 36 years old) as the individual behind the rumor.

For the purpose of gaining online traffic and illegal profits, Xu used the AI content generation feature of an app on March 10 at 10 a.m. to create a false headline: "Top-tier celebrity allegedly loses entire RMB 1 billion fortune in overseas gambling, causing public uproar."

He then disseminated this fabricated information through the internet, leading to its rapid spread and widespread public debate. The rumor triggered secondary speculation and related topics, frequently appearing on trending lists and significantly disrupting public order.

In accordance with relevant laws and regulations, public security authorities imposed an administrative detention of 8 days on Xu for spreading false information.
