Following the devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar recently, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government dispatched a 51-member rescue team to the affected areas on March 29.
According to a social media update from HK's Security Bureau at noon on March 31, the SAR rescue team has reached Mandalay, one of the hardest-hit regions. Upon arrival, the team immediately joined forces with the national rescue team and received a briefing on the local disaster situation.
Along the way, the team observed widespread damage, including collapsed buildings and displaced residents constructing temporary tents on open grounds.
The SAR rescue team, in coordination with the national team, has divided tasks and is now fully prepared to head to different disaster-stricken areas to carry out search-and-rescue operations. Additionally, they will set up a field base camp alongside the national rescue team to facilitate their rescue missions.
