A 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar at 2:20 pm Friday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The epicenter was monitored at 21.85 degrees north latitude and 95.95 degrees east longitude.
The quake struck at a depth of 30 km, said a report issued by the CENC.
The epicenter of this earthquake was 294 kilometers from our nearest national border, causing strong tremors in Xishuangbanna, Dehong, Kunming, Lijiang, Baoshan, and Dali in Yunnan, and tremor feedback in Guizhou and Guangxi. This earthquake is the 17th magnitude 6 or greater earthquake to occur globally this year, and the largest earthquake to occur this year.
The quake was felt in many parts of Yunnan Province. At 2:50 pm, CCTV reporter learned from the emergency management bureau of Ruili City, Yunnan Province, that there were houses damaged and people were injured because of the quake. Rescue workers have been organized to gather, the work is in progress.
