The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) released the latest figures today (March 27), indicating that Hong Kong has once again experienced the peak season of new coronavirus infections since March.
According to the statistics, the percentage of positive tests for the new coronavirus has increased significantly from 0.4% to 1.7%. At the same time, the per capita new coronavirus load in sewage surveillance has also increased sharply from 100,000 units to 260,000 units, reflecting the increasing risk of transmission in the community.
With the emergence of mutated strains of the virus and the influence of seasonal factors, it is expected that there may be peaks of infection of the new coronavirus every four to six months.
The CHP emphasizes that vaccination remains one of the most effective means of prevention and control at present. Apart from vaccination, members of the public should continue to maintain personal hygiene habits, such as wearing face masks, washing hands frequently and keeping a distance from social contacts.
