Hong Kong's first taxi fleet is set to begin operations by the end of the month, with the Transport Department announcing that a total of 80 exclusive stopping locations will be introduced across 13 key areas to facilitate passenger pick-up.
These designated locations will include Hong Kong International Airport, major border-crossing ports, West Kowloon Station, selected MTR stations, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, and Disneyland. To enhance convenience for both residents and visitors, QR codes will be placed at these stopping areas, allowing passengers to easily book rides through the taxi fleet's ride-hailing service.
The fleet will consist of five taxi groups, comprising more than 3,500 vehicles, including 300 wheelchair-accessible taxis. Each taxi will display a license and a color-coded label to indicate its operating zone, which will be prominently shown on both the front and rear of the vehicle.
The color-coded labels, measuring half the size of an A4 sheet, will align with the existing taxi color scheme to help passengers quickly identify their service areas:
- Red for urban taxis
- Green for taxis serving the New Territories
- Blue for taxis operating on Lantau Island
With these new arrangements, the Transport Department aims to improve taxi services, accessibility, and convenience for all passengers across Hong Kong.
