As Hong Kong's universities compete to establish the city's third medical school, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has unveiled its 21-member expert advisory committee for the proposed institution. The panel includes prominent figures such as Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zhang Wenhong, director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases.
In addition to Zhong and Zhang, the committee also consists of multiple experts from the mainland. Other notable members include former Hong Kong Secretary for Food and Health Dr. York Chow, the dean of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and the dean of University College London's Medical School.
Addressing the predominance of mainland experts on the committee, PolyU President Teng Jinguang explained during a press conference that the proposed medical school is intended to serve not only HK but also the broader needs of the Greater Bay Area.
