Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has submitted its proposal for a new medical school to the Task Group on New Medical School of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region today (March 17). Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, along with Co-Chairmen Professors Lee Sum Ping and Manson Fok, expressed gratitude to all committee members for their dedication and support, as well as to institutions and professionals from Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area (GBA), and beyond for endorsing HKBU's innovative medical education and research programs.
Professor Wai highlighted the importance of the committee's contributions, stating, "This proposal reflects HKBU's commitment to excellence and our collaborative spirit, which has been key in shaping a comprehensive plan that meets the Task Force's requirements."
Co-Chairmen Professors Fok and Lee noted the diverse perspectives brought by committee members, which have helped establish a solid foundation for the new medical school. They emphasized the integration of Chinese and Western medicine as crucial for future healthcare in Hong Kong and the Mainland.
HKBU intends to name the new medical school the "Frontier Integrative Medical College," reflecting its goal to harmoniously blend innovative technologies and traditional medicine. This aligns with the recently announced "Frontier Translational Medical Research Institute," co-founded by notable figures including Nobel Laureate Sir Michael Houghton. Together, these entities aim to create an innovative model for integrating medical education, research, and technology.
