A knife-wielding woman caused panic in Ma On Shan this afternoon (March 18). At around 1:20 p.m., passengers at Ma On Shan MTR Station reported seeing a woman wandering on the platform while holding a knife.
The suspect later fled the station in the direction of the MOSTown shopping mall.
Police immediately responded, deploying multiple patrol cars and mobilizing officers from the Police Tactical Unit (PTU), who arrived equipped with shields and anti-stab vests. A search operation was conducted in the areas surrounding MOSTown and Ma On Shan Park.
Officers eventually located the woman outside a shop on the second floor of MOSTown. She was subdued and pressed against a wall before being taken into custody. A suspicious backpack believed to belong to the woman was also seized at the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported that the woman occasionally giggled as she was escorted away. Police are currently investigating her mental state and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
