Tragedy struck this morning (March 14) as a 47-year-old woman was found dead after reportedly falling into the sea near Peng Chau while on her way to work. At around 7:45 a.m., police officers patrolling near No. 6 Po Peng Street, outside the Peng Chau Municipal Services Building, discovered the woman floating approximately five meters from shore. Firefighters were called to the scene and retrieved her from the water, but she was pronounced dead on the spot.
Initial police investigations identified the deceased as Ms. Lee, a McDonald's employee who lived on Peng Chau. It is believed she accidentally fell into the sea while boarding a ferry at the Peng Chau pier to travel to Discovery Bay, where she worked.
According to reports, Lee routinely boarded the first ferry early in the morning, often before other passengers arrived. No witnesses observed her fall into the water. The ferry operator, Tsui Wah Ferry Services, stated that no incidents were reported during operational hours.
A spokesperson for McDonald's Hong Kong confirmed that the deceased was an employee and expressed deep sorrow over her passing. The company extended condolences to her family and pledged to provide necessary support during this difficult time.
Further investigation revealed that Lee could not swim and was well-liked by both neighbors and colleagues. Police do not suspect foul play, believing she fell into the sea while attempting to board the ferry alone.
The location where she was found was approximately 20 meters from the suspected fall site.
