The Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has proposed to merge the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the university's Senate approved the merger proposal last month. HKBU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alexander Wai said today (Feb. 15) that the proposal will be submitted to the Council for consideration next month.
Prof. Wai noted that university education and the future development of students face a variety of challenges. "The traditional way of arts and sciences has become obsolete, and HKBU began to promote interdisciplinary development two years ago, with the introduction of four interdisciplinary undergraduate programs," he said.
The merger proposal has been approved by the Senate of HKBU and will be scrutinized by the Council next month, he added.
