A large-scale protest broke out at Trump Tower in Manhattan on the evening of March 13, with approximately 150 demonstrators storming the building's lobby. The protesters were rallying in support of Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil, who was arrested for his pro-Palestinian activism, and opposing the Trump administration's plans to deport him.
The New York Police Department confirmed that substantial law enforcement resources were deployed to maintain order. A total of 98 protesters who refused to leave were arrested. Kaz Daughtry, New York City's Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, said that the operation was conducted safely and under control. All individuals were removed without incident, and no physical altercations or injuries occurred.
Trump Tower, located on Fifth Avenue, holds significant political symbolism as the headquarters of the Trump Organization and the family's residence. US President Donald Trump and his wife live in the tower's penthouse, while their son Barron Trump has resided there since enrolling at New York University in the fall of 2023.
The Trump Organization has not commented on the protest.
