Shenzhen North railway station is set to implement a security check-free transfer system for passengers transitioning from high-speed rail to the metro, addressing long-standing public complaints. Many passengers have criticized the time-consuming and cumbersome "secondary security checks" required when transferring to the metro with luggage, calling for streamlined procedures.
In response, Shenzhen's transport authorities announced plans to enhance passenger flow management during peak periods and optimize the station's transit environment. The initiative aims to improve the travel experience for both residents and visitors.
According to the optimization plan, Shenzhen North railway station will establish a permanent security-check-free transfer zone at the East Square high-speed rail exit, offering direct access to Metro Line 5 and Lines 4/6.
Data from Shenzhen Metro shows that peak daily passenger flows at Shenzhen North railway station reach 210,000 for Line 5, with 132,000 transferring from Line 5 to Lines 4/6, and 134,000 transferring in the opposite direction.
During the security check-free periods, peak daily passenger transfers from high-speed rail to Line 5 alone can reach 109,000.
Currently, the station's average daily passenger flow is double its original design capacity, with overburdened operations being a primary cause of congestion and difficulties in managing passenger flow.
