Deliveroo, the food delivery platform that has operated in Hong Kong for nine years, announced on March 10 that it will cease all operations in the city on April 7 through a liquidation process. As a result, items branded with the Deliveroo logo, such as paper bags and jackets, are set to become "limited-edition" collectibles.
Recently, users on the second-hand marketplace Carousell have discovered various new and used Deliveroo-branded items being resold, with some prices surging to extraordinary levels.
Among the listings, an M-sized "rare edition" jacket was priced at HK$500 and marked as "sold" by late evening. Another seller priced an insulated delivery bag at HK$300, which just a few months ago could be purchased for as little as HK$10 to HK$95.
The most shocking listing, however, was a paper bag priced at HK$8,888. Previously, such paper bags were sold for only HK$0.5 to HK$2 apiece.
