Hong Kong police received a report on March 11 from a Disney staff member regarding the theft of a substantial amount of electronic equipment, including network switches, firewall systems, and television remote controls. A spokesperson for HK Disneyland Resort confirmed that the case is under police investigation and does not involve any Disney employees. The resort has pledged full cooperation with the authorities.
Sources revealed that the theft was discovered on March 7 when a warehouse manager inspected inventory at a 10,000-square-foot warehouse within the park premises. The manager found that 18 boxes of electronic equipment, valued at approximately HK$3 million, were missing. The case has been handed over to the Crime New Territories South Regional Headquarters for further investigation.
Following investigations, police detained three suspects. It is reported that the stolen items were resold for HK$300,000 to a recycling shop in the Sham Shui Po area. The shop owner later sold seven boxes of equipment for HK$180,000 to an unknown buyer via WeChat and another six boxes for HK$120,000 to a shop worker.
Authorities recovered five boxes of equipment from the recycling shop and arrested a 25-year-old shop owner surnamed Choi and a 23-year-old shop worker, also surnamed Choi, on suspicion of "handling stolen goods."
