The YOT Hub project held its opening ceremony on March 9 at the Regal Oriental Hotel. Attendees included the Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Alice Mak; the Chairperson of the 45th Board of Directors of Yan Oi Tong (YOT), Cheng Wai-hong; and the Vice President of Sales & Marketing of Regal Hotels International, Balwin Yeung, who officiated the event alongside guests and board members, witnessing the official opening of the youth hostel and exploring the living spaces and new lifestyles of the residents.
The YOT Hub features 80 rooms, providing up to 160 beds, aimed at offering a comfortable, convenient, and affordable living environment for eligible young people aged 18 to 30 at below market rental rates. YOT Hub will start accepting tenants at the end of October 2024, with qualified applicants moving in gradually from December after passing an interview. Currently, the room rental rate has reached 61%.
Alice Mak stated that the government has consistently prioritized youth development. Since expanding the youth hostel program in 2023, five related projects involving 1,300 beds have been approved. She emphasized that the youth hostel program helps alleviate housing pressure for young people in Hong Kong, allowing them to focus on their future with more options. She hopes that through community engagement, youth can build a healthy and proactive lifestyle, fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility towards society.
