The opening ceremony of the 3rd Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was held at the Great Hall of the People at 3 pm on the afternoon of March 4. Yang Liwei, China's first astronaut, deputy chief designer of China's manned space program, and a member of the National Committee of CPPCC, stated before the opening ceremony that the training of Hong Kong payload specialists is going very well and the foundation is solid.
Yang also mentioned that a Pakistani astronaut will soon be stationed at the Chinese space station, and a cooperation agreement has already been signed with the Pakistani side.
As to whether he would have the opportunity to visit Hong Kong, Yang said that he would look for opportunities to conduct exchanges in Hong Kong, and hoped that scientists and technologists in Hong Kong and Macao could participate in the work of the National Manned Space Project, and transform their achievements to serve the society.
The selection process for the fourth batch of reserve astronauts for China's manned space program was completed in mid-last year, with a total of 10 reserve astronauts finally selected, including 8 pilots and 2 payload specialists (one from Hong Kong and one from Macao). The two payload specialists from Hong Kong and Macao joined the team in August last year to participate in astronaut training.
