On March 3, during the first press conference of Two Sessions 2025, spokesperson Liu Jieyi introduced the impressive results of China's new quality productive force development from the past year. Highlights included humanoid robots dancing at the Spring Festival Gala, drones launching "cyber fireworks" in the night sky, and the global buzz around open-source AI large models.
Last year, the phrase "new quality productive force" was first included in the government work report during the Two Sessions. Over the past year, this wave has not only spurred the vigorous development of related industries in mainland China but has also profoundly impacted Hong Kong's robotics industry, allowing it to integrate more deeply into the mainland market and enter a fast track of growth.
HK's 'Iron Man'
Mark Mak, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Roborn, noted that the robots developed by his team have appeared on the cover of the Hong Kong SAR government's Policy Address from 2022 to 2024, becoming a highlight of Hong Kong's tech innovation. "In the past year, our orders have doubled," he remarked, witnessing rapid growth for his company following the Two Sessions 2024.
As a representative company in Hong Kong's robotics industry, Roborn began focusing on collaborative robots years ago and successfully developed China's first 5G bionic robot, placing it in the "first echelon" of the industry. "After the introduction of new quality productive force, we found that the SAR government has provided a lot of funding for advanced manufacturing and equipment upgrades, including interest-free loans guaranteed by the government for three years to encourage enterprises to enhance competitiveness through technology," Mak shared with enthusiasm.
Seizing the momentum
"In the past year, I've traveled to the mainland more times than in the previous years combined." Mak has personally felt the strong push of the new quality productive force driving industrial upgrades. Just after arriving in Shandong to collaborate with a leading local robotics company, in an interview, he said, "I've been running off my feet."
Mak also revealed that his company plans to launch a humanoid robot truly suitable for industrial production within 24 months. "I hope this year's Two Sessions will offer more specific support for industries like humanoid robots and new quality productive force," he expressed, adding that his company has achieved profitability in the past two years and is now awaiting a "breakthrough point."
"I'm full of confidence for our future!"
