On the afternoon of March 3, during a press conference at the Great Hall of the People, Liu Jieyi, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, addressed 12 questions from domestic and international journalists with a calm and confident demeanor. He emphasized that the long-term supporting conditions and fundamental trends for China's economy remain positive, stating, "China's door will only open wider," and noted that many foreign friends express confidence in the Chinese market, viewing investment in China as an investment in the future.
At 68, Liu is the 16th spokesperson for the CPPCC. He is well-known among Hong Kong residents for his previous roles, including Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office and China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations. This marks his second time serving as spokesperson for the CPPCC session.
During the 70-minute press conference, Liu provided an overview of the CPPCC's activities over the past year and discussed the agenda for the current session. He addressed diverse topics of international and domestic interest, including China's economic situation, new quality productive forces, comprehensive deepening of reforms, high-level foreign openness, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development, technological innovation, social welfare, and agricultural issues.
Liu's responses reflected sincerity and straightforwardness, earning praise from the media for their balanced presentation of China's internal and external affairs. When discussing the current economic situation, he candidly acknowledged some challenges, such as insufficient consumer demand and risks in certain sectors. However, he reiterated that the underlying supportive conditions for China's economy remain unchanged.
Regarding technological innovations over the past year, Liu highlighted notable advancements, including humanoid robots performing at the Spring Festival Gala, drones displaying "cyber fireworks," and the global excitement surrounding open-source AI models.
When a foreign reporter complimented his Chinese language skills, Liu humorously remarked, "I appreciate your Chinese; I think it reflects the achievements of China's reform and opening up."
As the press conference concluded, reporters continued to engage Liu, asking about his feelings on his second appearance at the Two Sessions' press conference.
Liu smiled and expressed gratitude to everyone at the scene.
