
The animated film Ne Zha 2 has made history as the first Chinese film to surpass HK$10 billion at the box office, debuting in Hong Kong and Macao on Feb. 22, with its opening day box office reaching an impressive HK$6,572,837.
The film has not only garnered enthusiastic support from HKers but also attracted a large number of foreign friends from different countries. Today (Feb. 23), reporters visited cinemas to interview foreign audiences about their thoughts on Ne Zha 2. They unanimously praised the film's animation technology and cultural depth, stating that the movie gave them a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture. Notably, many viewers mentioned that even without a background in Chinese culture, they could easily understand and enjoy the film due to its excellent storytelling.

French audience Laurent said the film incorporates many Chinese values, such as diligence and respect for family. His favorite character is the “little old God sitting on a cloud” (Immortal Wuliang Xianweng). “He seems kind at first but turns out to be a bad guy", this unexpected twist left a strong impression on him.

Poland's audience Karolina praised for the film's visual effects and storytelling pace. "This is my first experience with Chinese animation, I'm pretty impressed. It was epic. Beautiful visuals. And the pacing of the story was really good." She also likes the comedic elements, which add a lighthearted touch to the film. Even without a Chinese cultural background, she could easily follow the story and enjoyed the movie

Sebastian from the UK expressed his admiration for the traditional cultural elements in the film. "I really like the design of the architecture, and how they incorporated Chinese traditional elements in the film." He thinks the movie is quite good at storytelling, and it was fun and easy for him to follow along.

Founder of China Retold, Dominic Lee, said that Ne Zha 2 has sparked a global sensation "We thought it was a good idea to invite not just HKers, but expatriates to come and watch this movie and experience the development of our movie industry." He hopes to foster a deeper understanding of Chinese culture through the lens of its most popular animated franchise.
