
The highly anticipated animated movie Ne Zha 2, which ranks 8th on the global box office chart, is the highest-grossing animated film worldwide and the first Chinese film to surpass RMB 10 billion in ticket sales, has officially premiered in Hong Kong today (Feb. 22). The film drew massive crowds as eager moviegoers rushed to catch the first screenings, resulting in overwhelming demand for tickets. The total number of screenings for the day was increased to over 800, with several sessions selling out entirely. In Causeway Bay's Cine-Art House JP, nearly all three morning screenings were fully booked.
According to HK's movie information platform WMOOV, by 12:30 p.m., Ne Zha 2 had already attracted over 58,000 viewers across the city, far ahead of the second-place local film The Way We Talk, which recorded 3,989 viewers. Additionally, as of 1 p.m., Ne Zha 2 recorded a peak popularity score of 5,683 on the platform at 11 a.m., significantly outpacing the average popularity scores of all other movies.
Originally scheduled for over 500 screenings on its opening day, the pre-sale success of Ne Zha 2 prompted theaters to increase its showings to more than 800 sessions. In Causeway Bay's Cine-Art House JP, a total of eight screenings were scheduled for the day, with three in the morning. Among them, one screening was a private event, while the other two were nearly sold out. Afternoon and evening slots also saw rapid sales, with some nearing full capacity.
As for ticket prices, prime-time showings at popular locations ranged from HK$60 to HK$140. Early-bird screenings at more suburban theaters, such as Ma On Shan and Tuen Mun, offered discounted prices as low as HK$40.
