
A chairlift malfunction at a ski resort in Shiga Kogen, Nagano Prefecture, Japan, left 77 people stranded on Feb. 22. Three individuals were hospitalized due to suspected hypothermia following the incident.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at the No. 2 High-Speed Chairlift of the Yakebitaiyama ski resort in Yamanouchi Town, Nagano. The malfunction halted the lift's operation, trapping 77 skiers in mid-air. Rescue personnel evacuated 49 individuals, and by noon, the chairlift resumed operation, allowing the remaining 28 people to safely reach the ground.
At the time of the incident, the ski resort was experiencing heavy snowstorms. Several individuals reported feeling unwell, with three showing symptoms of hypothermia. They were transported to the hospital for treatment. All three were conscious and able to walk.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the chairlift failure.
