The Correctional Services Department (CSD) reported today (Feb. 22) that officers at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre successfully intercepted an attempt by a 28-year-old male remand prisoner to smuggle suspected drugs into the facility using internal concealment.
The prisoner, who was remanded yesterday on charges of trafficking dangerous drugs, underwent an X-ray body scan upon admission. Correctional officers suspected that he had swallowed drugs prior to being taken into custody. He was subsequently placed in isolation under close monitoring.
At 9:29 a.m. today, the remand prisoner excreted a package wrapped in adhesive tape, containing approximately 13 grams of suspected drugs. The case has been referred to the police for further investigation.
A spokesperson for the CSD emphasized that the department is committed to implementing preventive measures to block the entry of drugs and unauthorized items into correctional facilities. These efforts aim to ensure the orderly management of the facilities and maintain a drug-free detention environment.
