Recently, DeepSeek has gained significant traction in the AI community, especially during the Spring Festival. Major telecommunications companies in China have fully integrated the DeepSeek open-source model across various applications. Additionally, several state-owned enterprises in mainland China have partnered with DeepSeek for their products.
According to reports from Baidu-SW, Baidu Search is set to fully integrate the latest deep search capabilities from the DeepSeek and ERNIE Bot large models to enrich the search experience for users.
Baidu has been one of the first internet companies in mainland China to release large models, traditionally following a closed-source approach. However, the company has recently shifted its strategy and announced plans to launch the Wenxin large model 4.5 series in the coming months, with an official open-source release scheduled for June 30. Furthermore, Baidu announced that its ERNIE Bot service will be completely free starting at midnight on April 1, allowing all users on PC and mobile platforms to experience the latest models and features.
In a notable development, WeChat has also confirmed it will also integrate DeepSeek. Tencent announced that WeChat's search feature, "WeChat Search," is currently undergoing a gray testing phase with the DeepSeek-R1 model. Selected users will have free access to this enhanced model, which supports internet searches and provides high-quality answers based on a vast array of WeChat ecosystem content.
Tencent emphasized that user personal data and privacy will not be utilized in this integration. The new WeChat AI search feature will allow users to share search results directly with friends and in Moments, although it currently lacks historical Q&A and continuous questioning capabilities.
Experts believe that integrating large models like DeepSeek can improve the intelligence and accuracy of search functions, helping to understand user intent better and manage complex queries. The recent moves by Tencent, including the integration of DeepSeek into various services like the AI assistant "Tencent Yuanbao" and Tencent Cloud, may catalyze a reevaluation of the technological potential of Chinese tech companies in the market.
