The White House prevented a credentialed Associated Press reporter and photographer from boarding the presidential plane on Friday for a weekend trip with Donald Trump, citing the news agency's position on naming the Gulf of Mexico as the reason for their exclusion.
This marked a significant escalation in a four-day dispute between the White House and the AP regarding access to the presidency.
The administration has barred the AP from covering several events at the White House this week, including a news conference with India's leader and multiple occasions in the Oval Office. This action stems from the news outlet's refusal to adopt Trump's terminology of calling the body of water, which partially lies outside U.S. territory, the "Gulf of America."
