Recently, The US government's proposal to take over the Gaza Strip has drawn widespread international attention and strong reactions. The plan has heightened regional tensions and triggered a global debate.

In October 2023, a new round of conflict between Israel and Palestine erupted, with Israel's military operations in Gaza resulting in significant casualties and mass displacement. According to Gaza's health authorities, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 47,000 Palestinians, injured more than 110,000, and displaced over a million people. The international community has been working to broker a ceasefire and initiate peace talks in response to this severe humanitarian crisis.

On January 15, 2024, Israel and Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement) reached a ceasefire agreement, which took effect from January 19. The agreement consists of two phases: the first phase, lasting six weeks, involves the partial exchange of detainees between the two sides; the second phase, beginning on February 3, focuses on further detainee exchanges and discussions on the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

On February 4, 2025, during a joint press conference with the Israeli Prime Minister, the US government proposed that the United States "will take over" and hold a "long-term ownership position" in Gaza. The US also stated that it would not rule out deploying US troops to support the reconstruction of Gaza. Additionally, it suggested"clean out" the territory by relocating Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan, either temporarily or permanently.

This proposal has faced strong opposition from the international community.

A senior advisor to the Palestinian president condemned the US proposal as a manifestation of colonialist thinking and a violation of Palestinian rights and autonomy. A senior Hamas official also rejected the idea, stating that it would only create further chaos and escalate tensions in the region.

The foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, along with a Palestinian representative, jointly sent a letter to the US Secretary of State opposing the forced displacement of Gaza's population. They emphasized that the local Palestinian people must lead Gaza's reconstruction and that the international community should support their right to take charge of the rebuilding process.

Internationally, the US proposal has been widely criticized as inconsistent with global consensus and potentially destabilizing for the region. Analysts warn that such a plan could trigger new conflicts and destabilize the Middle East.

The proposal has sparked controversy even within the US and among its allies. Some fear that it could lead to further violence and hinder peace efforts. In contrast, others have expressed caution, believing the proposal could escalate instability and contradict the broader international push for a diplomatic resolution to the Palestinian issue.

The US's proposal may gain leverage in future negotiations regarding Palestine and lay the groundwork for deeper involvement. However, with strong opposition from Palestinians, Arab nations, and the broader international community, the plan has raised serious concerns. If the US government continues to push forward with it, the initiative could have significant negative consequences for the ongoing ceasefire talks and even provoke further conflict.

The US proposal has undoubtedly drawn global criticism. The international community urges all to exercise restraint and pursue a peaceful resolution through negotiations rather than taking actions that could further escalate tensions. Achieving peace is never easy, especially in a region with a complex historical and political background. Above all, we hope that the people of Gaza can soon emerge from the devastation of war, rebuild their homes, and lead peaceful, stable lives. The international community should also work together to create more opportunities for peace rather than more obstacles. After all, nothing in this world is more precious than peace.
