A consortium led by billionaire Elon Musk has recently made a US$97.4 billion bid to acquire control of the non-profit organization overseeing OpenAI, significantly lower than OpenAI's estimated valuation of US$300 billion.
In a post on social media platform X, OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman replied, "No thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want."

Musk's legal team has confirmed that a formal acquisition proposal has been submitted to OpenAI. In a statement, Musk emphasized that OpenAI should return to its original principles of open-source development and prioritizing safety.
Musk and Altman co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but Musk left the group in 2018. In recent years, tensions have risen between the two, with Musk opposing Altman's decision to transition OpenAI from a non-profit to a for-profit entity. Musk has even taken legal action over the matter, further deepening their rift.
