On Feb. 8, the first competition day of the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee and his wife attended the event and showed their support for athletes. Lee also visited the ice sports athlete village, where he met with members of the HK, China delegation, including athletes, coaches, team leaders, and medical staff.
In a post on social media, Lee highlighted his pride in HK sending a record-breaking delegation of over 70 athletes to the Asian Winter Games. He expressed his delight at seeing the athletes in excellent physical and mental condition, encouraging them to stay relaxed and perform at their best.

Lee also noted that HK, along with Guangdong and Macao, will co-host the 15th National Games in November this year. As HK will provide accommodation and support services for athletes, Lee emphasized that this visit offered valuable insights into the operations of the athlete village, which will help HK deliver high-quality services during the National Games.
Later, Lee attended events at the Heilongjiang Ice Training Center, including short track speed skating and speed skating competitions. He praised the performances of both the Chinese national team and the HK, China team, commending their speed and skill. He also witnessed Chinese skater Gao Tingyu win the men's 100m speed skating final with a record-breaking time of 9.35 seconds, securing a gold medal and setting a new Asian record. He described the moment as a source of immense pride.

After the competitions, Lee met with several HK athletes, applauding their dedication and achievements. He encouraged them to continue striving for excellence, noting the challenges HK faces as a "snowless city" in developing winter sports athletes capable of shining on the international stage.

Lee reminded the public to follow the Asian Winter Games by watching live broadcasts on RTHK TV 32 and to cheer for athletes.
