On Feb. 1, Hong Kong police received a report of a white private car found overturned and submerged at the bottom of Kowloon Reservoir, near the Kam Shan Tree Walk. Rescue personnel, including divers from the fire department, were dispatched to the scene. Fortunately, no one was trapped inside the vehicle. The Water Supplies Department (WSD) announced today (Feb. 5) on social media that operations at Kowloon Reservoir will resume tomorrow (Feb. 6).
The WSD stated that the contractor had removed the vehicle from the reservoir and completed the necessary cleanup operations. Over the past few days, water sample testing was conducted in nearby areas, focusing on oil, toxicity, and other pollutants. Results confirmed that the reservoir's water quality met all safety standards.
Reports indicate that the car, which still had its license plates attached, was covered in mud and rust, suggesting it had been submerged for some time. Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the vehicle may be linked to a body discovery case in 2023.
