During the Lunar New Year, a theft incident has been reported in Mong Kok. A motorcyclist shared online that his helmet was stolen, with the crime captured on CCTV.
The victim recently posted the video online, hoping fellow riders can help identify the thief. The stolen helmet was from a high-end Japanese brand, Arai, valued at approximately HK$8,000.
On the fourth day of the Lunar New Year (Feb. 1), the victim posted, "My helmet has been stolen! There's footage and images! I've reported it to the police. If anyone sees this second-hand helmet for sale, please PM me! Thank you!" The video footage shows that on Jan. 26, a man in a black hoodie approached the motorcycle parked outside Paradise Square on Kwong Wah Street, initially inspecting the helmet but leaving empty-handed.
About a minute later, another CCTV clip shows the same man returning with a tool. He lingered on the motorcycle for about 20 seconds, with the helmet still visible. After wandering around for about two and a half minutes, he allegedly placed the helmet into a black bag and left the scene with the locked helmet.
The police reported that at 4:44 am on Jan. 26, a 28-year-old man filed a report about the theft of the helmet and lock, classifying it as "theft from a vehicle."
